Individual Airlines Unaccompanied Minor Information

I. General
1. Ethiopian defines children less than 12 years of age who are traveling alone or a child/infant of any age who is traveling with an Ethiopian or Other Airline Escort as Unaccompanied Minor.
2. Special handling regulations apply to the carriage of children under 12 years of age who are not accompanied in the same compartment by a passenger eighteen years of age or above on both domestic and international Ethiopian flights.
3. Ethiopian will not take responsibility for Unaccompanied Minors beyond the airport at which they are embarking or disembarking. However, Ethiopian will deliver the unaccompanied minor to the receiving carrier at transfer point.
II. Policy
1. Unaccompanied minors under the age of two (2) years on international flights, including Addis Ababa-Dire Dawa v.v., and under the age of six (6) on domestic flights will not be accepted on Ethiopian with or without Company escort.
2. A Company escort is mandatory for unaccompanied minors between the ages of 2 to 5 years on international routes including Addis Ababa-Dire Dawa v.v.
3. An escort can be provided by Ethiopian, when requested, only on international routes including Addis Ababa-Dire Dawa v.v.
III. Procedures
1. Prior to issuance of ticket, the client should fill Unaccompanied Minor Form (Ref. 02.27.06) complete with addresses and telephone numbers of adult parties involved who are responsible at origin, intermediate (if transfer is involved) and destination stations.
2. In the event that arrangement cannot be made by parent or guardian to receive child at transfer point and no escort service is requested, Ethiopian will assist in making arrangements for a suitable custodian without, however, accepting any liability. The arrangement of such custodian is for children who have reached their fifth birthday. All others below this age and up to 2 years shall be requested to have Company escort.
3. Unaccompanied minors will not be accepted for travel if the journey involves a transfer unless escorted or the parent or guardian has arranged for the child to be met and cared for at the transfer point.
IV. Unaccompanied Minor’s and Company Escorts’ Fare
1. International
The following fares shall apply for the transportation of unaccompanied minors on international routes.

2. Domestic
The fares and conditions applicable to the transportation of unaccompanied minors on international routes shall also apply to the sector Addis Ababa-Dire Dawa vise versa.
Exception:
Unaccompanied minors under six years of age, with or without Company escort will not be accepted for transportation on domestic routes. However, minors between the ages of 6 to 12 may be accepted without Company escort at 50% of the adult fare.
